Ive had one person tell me its a possible control arm and Ive had another person tell me its a strut. the person who said control arm said it would cost about 70 dollars to check it out. the person who said it was my strut did a hand test i guess. he had me park on a level surface and he showed me that the drivers side was lower than the passanger side. what do you think? my steering is fine but the car does ride a little rough. thank you

Edit: I'm sorry, I didn't read the entire question. Does it squeak when it goes up and down or when the tire is in rotation? It the car is parked and you bounce on the front and it squeaks, it's probably the strut.

It's probably the strut. You should replace the pair.i own a shop and it could just be the bushings in the sway bar they,ll squeak when its setting still or moving either way,and they,ll drive you nuts trying to find out what it is sometimes,but that's the most common cause of it is the sway bar bushings,good luck i hope this helps.

This can be related to a lot of different type of problems. It would help if we knew what type of car and year. I'm assuming it has struts since you mentioned it. Best guess from what you described could be a strut, but also could be the upper strut mount. It's made of rubber and could collapse causing the same type of problem. Open your hood, and take off the strut cover. You should get a farily decent look at the rubber, if it is cracked or missing, or broken in any way, that could be the cause. If everything looks ok and you do the "bounce" test on both sides and compare it, the passenger side should go up and down with no problem. Another problem could be ball joints. Start the vehicle and move the steering wheel back and forth, slowly. If you here the noise then you have found your problem. You just need to see if it's the lower or upper ball joint that is causing the problem. It has lost is lubricant and needs to be replaced.

Could also be a tie rod end that has ball joints on each end. Some of these can be greased and some have to be replaced. If this is the problem, see if you can grease them and see if the noise goes away, if not, you may have to replace the one making the noise, but recommend replacing both on each side. I don't know if your vehicle is front or rear wheel drive.

I have seen on rare occasions, the bearing make noise also. If you start the vehicle and drive slowly forward do you hear the noise? Most of these noises are made by front wheel drive vehicles, that have pressed in bearings. Sometimes when they start to loose lubrication they start squeeking.
