Why do vehicle batteries need to be greased before they are installed?
I thought replacing it would make the noise go away and it didn't. I replaced it several times (not a cheap thing to do) and the noise always came back.

Hmmm, something is fishy. Part of the problem may be that it is not properly aligned and therefore making the noise. Try putting a washer on the bolt to act as a spacer and see if that helps any. Also when the engine is running look at the other pulleys and see if they are running smooth. Possibility that one of them is crooked causing the idle pulley to squeak cuz it is pulling the belt at an angle. How much limit is there to the amount of octane that I can put into my car?
