check your belt tension. newer cars have a spring loaded tensioner that keeps the belt tight as it wears. your el has a manual adjustment and as the belt stretches (normal to do so) it will get loose and slip enough to cause your symptoms. beware of shops that tell you that you need expensive new parts BEFORE they check this simple adjustment.what is the drive axles replacement costs (with labor) for mercury sable 1990?
Belt slipping.The steering gear and/or the power steering pump seals may be failing and leaking internally. So the hydraulic system is losing pressure and steering effort is going up. Rebuild the pump and steering gear or buy remanufactured parts.
