1982 El Camino power steering?

sometimes I have trouble with my power steering and was wondering why its not so easy to turn the wheel and then easy to turn. the fluid level is full.

check your belt tension. newer cars have a spring loaded tensioner that keeps the belt tight as it wears. your el has a manual adjustment and as the belt stretches (normal to do so) it will get loose and slip enough to cause your symptoms. beware of shops that tell you that you need expensive new parts BEFORE they check this simple adjustment.

The steering gear and/or the power steering pump seals may be failing and leaking internally. So the hydraulic system is losing pressure and steering effort is going up. Rebuild the pump and steering gear or buy remanufactured parts.
