Question:
At stops, especially the car cuts out or idles real rough and it dies unless if I give lots of gas. Then when driving the car backfires and runs real rough. What could this be? By the way, I replaced the clutch last week, could this be of any a problem? Also I checked for vacuum or boost leaks and did not find anything wrong with that, and the plugs and wires are new, about 2 months old.

How long will a distributor assembly and air flow meter last?
I'd check and make sure you MAF and it's plumbing is all correct, or that you dont' have your plug wires running parrallel. If the wires are too close in usually the same direction, they'll fire across each other. Your MAF will mess with your timing big time. When did this all start to happen in relation to the tune-up & clutch change? You may want to just check your MDP sensor (manifold differential pressure), on top of your intake by your TB. The clutch has no bearing on this problem. What is the spark plug gap on a 92 honda 1.5 L?
Backfiring can be a burned exhaust valve, which will cause rough running as well. Do a compression test, that will tell you if there is a problem. A vacuum gauge is also a good (and inexpensive) tool to have. It should come with directions and troubleshooting info.
Can salt in a cars gas tank ruin the engine?
Maybe the EGR valve is stuck open all the time. This would inject exhaust gas into the intake, and opens when the car is cruising along. I don't see it causing the backfire, tho.
How do I change my oil on a 2005 Nissan Altima. step by step?
If this started at the time you had the new wires installed one of the plug wires could be crossed and firing on an exhaust stroke. That is the only way I know this could happen, if stays running at higher rpm's and still feels rough then check the firing order.More Questions & Answers ...
