Has anyone lost their keys to an older Cadillac and had the cylinder switched?

Question:
i lost my keys and when i got a replacement one it did not work. the dealer said the steering column or cylinder was switched so now he told me i have to buy a new cylinder. any other way to get around this?(remember, the cadillac keys have that little chip in them.)

ive seen this happen a lot, you can reorder keys that fit it originally. that works only if it hasnt been replaced before.
if so the new keys wont fit the cylinder. and you cant return them. so yes the cylinder will need to be replaced with new keys.

With the vin # you should be a able to get a key made from the dealer with the proof of ownership i gues no record of the cylinder change
