My 1997 Chevy Silverado -started to act weird........?

turn the engine over either by hand (bolt on crank) or take flywheel cover off and use a flat prybar on teeth (done it a hundred times on HMMWV's wont hurt anything)or best way use the starter to bump it over and disable the fuel or ignition system first. why do u ask?
