My father had that happen to his car. (He bought gas from the Indian reservation, which is bottom of the barrel crap). He really couldn't do much about it because the gas used was technically still legal. You'll have a hard time fighting it.i thought i did but it turns out my car is just sh1t.

i own a shop,and i have had several good cases of it lately in the shop,and have tried to help some of the people get compensated for it,and no one has gotten anything yet from it,but here lately it seems to be a growing problem with a lot of water and drugs winding up in the gas we buy,i even got a good dose of it,the gas company's say they aren't liable for it once it goes in the ground at the stations,and the gas stations say the not liable for it because of weather conditions,so that really leaves no one to blame it on,all you can really do is repair the damage and change gas stations,that's about all any of us can do,good luck i hope this helps.Serious answers from mechanics only please - Car Trouble!?

Unless gas attendant puts diesel in your gas or gas in your diesel you are not likely getting any compensation. Through the winter you should keep putting Gas Line antifreeze in your fuel. Whether the water comes from the actual fuel station or inside your tank it doesn't matter. When temperatures fluctuate a lot, if the tank is not full of fuel then you will always get condensation inside tank. This creates your own water fuel mix.Contrary to popular belief the gas & water don't actually mix. Water will stay on the bottom of the tank. This includes station tanks.
Keep a full tank & periodically add Gas Line Antifreeze!

CHEVROLET HAD A PROBLEM WITH BAD GAS COMING IN ,IN SOUTH TEXAS THE FUEL WAS CONTAMIATED WITH SILICON AND WAS PUMPED FROM SEVERAL STATIONS IN THE AUSTIN HOUSTON AREA THIS WAS BACK IN 1997 AND THE DID REPAIR NEW VEHICLES IN THAT AREA . FOR ABOUT TWO YEARS CHEVY THEN SUED THE FUEL COMPANY IN A CLASS ACTION SUIT AND WON THE CASE . SO YES IT IS POSSIBLE . BUT YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE PROOF OF DAMAGE AS A DIRECT RESULT OF THE FUEL AND PAY THE COST OF FIXING YOUR CAR FIRST . It is very hard to prove unless your car quits at the spot you purchased the fuel do not fuel if you see a tanker putting fuel in the tanks at the station when they do it stirs up the water in the bottom of the tanks which you pump into your tank and when enough water and crap gets on your oxgen sensors it kicks the service engine soon or check engine light whichever and this changes your computer output which in turn causes your engine to run rough and get poor fuel mileage sometime you Can remove the battery cable and let your car set for about 15 min and it will reset otherwise you will be replacing the o/2 sensor`yes and they only way to protect yourself is too pick top gas stations and to periodicaly change your fuel filter and to add fuel treatments to your car. thats about it. i never had any problems though with Qt gas.
