does it look like cold water would melt ice..i own a shop,and you don't do either one ,hot water will freeze back up and make a worse mess than it is now,you start the car and let the defroster melt it if you pour water on that its going to freeze even worse than it is now,and hot water will probably crack the glass just use the defroster ,it will do it fast enough,good luck i hope this helps.

i have used hot water out the tap for over 20 years and have never cracked the windscreencold, but you should stick to an ice scraper.... it takes away all risk!

Any thermal shock to your windscreen could cause it to crack. Chucking water on a cold surface just creates more ice anyway, and you'll end up with a worse mess than when you started.
