What is a reasonable price for repairs for fuel sensor and exhaust manifold?

Question:
I have a '02 Isuzu Rodeo where my fuel sensor is bad, my gas gauge doesn't work, and I was told I need to repair or replace the exhaust manifold. So not only do I not know how much gas I have, I am using more than I should be as well. What would reasonable repair costs be, as I do not want to get taken advantage of.

The fuel sending unit is a common problem on the rodeo and will be covered under you warranty as long as you are still under warranty. That will fix the gas gage problem at no cost to you. If you are not under warranty any longer and they will not cover it, be advised, that is a $100+- part. You can find someone else to do the work a lot cheaper than the dealer. I did it myself, but it is a bit of work. You have to drop the gas tank, since the fuel pump and fuel sending unit are on top of the gas tank. But once you have it down it just plugs in. If I remember Isuzu wanted around $350 plus parts to do the job.

As for the exhaust manifold, wow! Check with your warranty coverage. An exhaust manifold is expensive for the imports. I would recommend repairing it if it is not covered by your warranty and then looking in a parts yard for a used one in good shape. Do not do this through the dealer. They will always cost more. Find a muffler shop in your area and have them weld the manifold. This will work as a temporary fix. Once you find a replacement, you can have them replace the manifold and connect it to your existing exhaust with no problems.

My Saturn Ion doesn't like to start when it's cold?

You would be wist to call the dealer here. There is a TSB for this model that requires the replacement of the sensor and reprogramming for the computer.
If the car has less than 100K, it might be covered under the EMISSIONS warranty. The car must be able to test the evaporative emissions system regularly, and in order to do that, it must know how much fuel is in the tank. If the sensor is inoperative, it can't test itself.
That would require an emissions warranty repair.

JUST ASK ABOUT THE WARANTY

i have a 2000 Malibu, and have heard that with newer cars that you dont have to let them warm up in the winter?

the fuel level sensor in tank should take about 2 hours to fix with an approx cost of $300 at the dealership including parts. the exhaust manifold should take between 3-4 hous depending on left or right side. I cant guess on parts because I dont know if you need the manifold or just the gaskets. I would be curious as to why you would need a manifold??
