Is it my pumpor Oil Pressure Switch?

Question:
I have a 1990 GMC Suburban with a 350 engine. A few days ago the oil gauge started showing low to no oil pressure. It would drop all the way down to 0 when I stop at a light and go up a little when I drive. In the morning when the engine is still cold and I start it, it will read low oil pressure. I have been told that I need an Oil Pressure Switch by some people and an Oil Pump by others. Can someone help me?

I have a 1993 240sx?

yeah i answered your last question on this subject but you never said how many miles were on your vehicle.remember if your vehicle has lots of miles on it,the oil pressure WILL drop down to almost nothing at idle and may only increase up to 15psi at normal driving speeds. This is because your engine is old and worn out.The bearings may be getting worn out and will cause low oil pressure. This is common for old 350 engines i had had an engine like yours with the same problem and it ran for a very very long time.

94 Camry Overheating HELP PLEASE!?

The switch is cheep I use a manual gauge and test the pressure at the switch first. Modern Tahoes and Yucons get better fuel mileage and some can use E-85 fuels. GM needs our help anyway. And 17 year old machine might need a new motor.

I'm sure you checked your oil first, right? If so, and the oil level is okay, it could be either one (pressure switch or pump). Also, it could be an oil sensor. You can go to an Auto Zone if you have those where you live, and get a diagnostics for free. In addition, your vehicle probably has those secret light codes on the dash, which if you know the code you can find the exact problem. Check out Auto Zone or Checker Auto. They are real helpful.

Brake pipes corroded?

Your oil pump (considering the year of your car) may be failing. If I was you, I would have your car looked at Yesterday! Because if the oil pump is failing, you risk blowing your whole engine! Stop driving the car and have it looked at. Sure, it could be just a faulty reading, but better to be safe than to be sorry if you blow your engine.

Why might the air bag light be on in my 2000 explorer?

I would change the oil pressure switch it could be bad or your gauge could also be bad, if the engine isn't knocking I would say your pump is ok, you can always go to autozone and get another oil pressure gauge and hook it up to be sure it's not the pump.
