My friends truck was vandalized when some punk jerk put surgar or candy in the gas tank. I'm finding it very hard to remove all the gunk left behind on the walls of the tank. We've dropped the gastank 3 times now and have used gas and carb cleaner to try and rid the gastank of the gunk that seems to stick along the walls. So far nothing has completely worked. Can anyone tell me what I should use? Also, is there a way of doing a better job of cleaning it out?

Crimany, just get a new tank from the junk yard,, I've heard they boil sugar vandalized tanks in a big tank of water,, that would in fact work,,, use bioiling water, like 5 gallons,, USE CARE- DUH! it should liquify the sugars, and pour it out.Candy is not readily dissolved in gasoline or brake cleaner. Water and detergent is the best solution. Sucrose and other ingrediants in candy will readily dissolve in water and then can be easily removed. Hot water works the best-DO NOT heat the tank to heat the water, unless you have washed it out with detergent first and then only if the tank is completely full of water-any thing short of this could lead to an explosion. Another option is to check out a local salvage yard and pick up a tank there. It would only run you about $50 and would involve alot less work.

Believe it or not we had a similar situation and didn't have much around to use to clean ours but then I remembered how people got grease off of birds with Dawn dish soap, and you guessed it, that is what we used and it worked like a charm. Had to do it twice though but it's cheap and it works. Good luck!Oh yeah, if you have spent that much time on it and dawn doesn't work it might have been cheaper, mentally anyways, to just get another from a junk yard.
Any experience i have seen or heard of with gas tanks after a person has added something to a tank is that the tank has had to be replace in all cases.Your chances of moter damage is great.,if it hasn't accrued yet?
You can try taking the tank to a radiator shop and have them boil it. That should bring it to near new condition.
you can use venigar to defume your tank after emtying. keep the venigar for about 30 min. occasionally shaking tank. after approx. 30, pour some 3 to 4 gallons of boiling water and move your tank in a see saw like manner. leave it until you're ready to touch it.

when removing venigar and water content, empty tank, let it drip for few min. diesel it of at least a liter or two, shake and flip tank slowly, drain, and your done!
