Matiz gear lever gone floppy/ broken - can only engage 1st & 2nd gear - what's the problem & how do I fix it?

Question:
Hi - my wife's well-cared-for Matiz (1999, 36k miles, one owner) has suffered a major problem with the gear lever. The gears have always been notchy - especially when cold - and yesterday morning when I started up and pushed it into first (cold) there was a very light crunch - the lever went all floppy and would not go into any other position than 1st or 2nd.

how often should you get an oil change? 3000 miles? 5000 miles?

Can anybody suggest what the problem might be and how expensive or difficult it will be to fix? Might it be the 'selector' and is that an easy or difficult job to replace? I'm not a mechanic and will need to take it somewhere to get it fixed I think. Not sure where would be best - we are on the southwest outskirts of Bristol.

what will be the exhaust gas temperature of an ic engine after passing through turbocharger??

All feedback / answers very much appreciated.

What happens when you put tampons in a gas tank?

Pedro is correct. Unlike all other cars (which use a mechanical gear linkage) the gear lever on a Matiz is connect to the gearbox by a cable. This is why the gears are always 'notchy' on all Matiz's.

Why is my truck shaking?

The cable has now snapped.

You really need to get it to a Daewoo (Chevrolet) dealer, as no-one else will have the parts or know-how to undertake such an unusual repair.

How do I know if my car steering is correctly aligned?

i believe it shifts with a cable..its streached or come loose..sounds like a dealer fix but they overcharge..if u have a "guy" try him/her.

Changing the oil filter?

Your problem is you and your lack of taste and self respect. The Matiz isn't a car, it's an appliance. You obviously put as much thought into the purchase of your car as you did your washing machine.

Should I replace intake manifold and serpentine belt in my Camry?

It was cheap for a reason, and you will lose more money when you come to sell it than if you had bought a VW Polo or simiilar that was 3 years older for the same money. Get it fixed, get it into Autotrader, sell it to some other muppet and then e-mail me with the resulting budget and i will steer you towards something worth having. £1500 would get you a 6yo Seat Ibiza which is a Polo in a better looking body, with some cred and a good record when it comes to reliability. Don't take offence, just the advice.
