TIG welding on American Chopper / Biker Build-off etc.?

Question:
Why do they do so much TIG welding.
I would think MIG would be easier.
They seem to use MIG only for tack welds.

With practice,a tig welder can enable the operator to produce near perfect welds because the heat and rate that the filler rod is used is totally controllable and instantly adjusted to suit the need.Mig is great for production welding where consistent lengths are required. It's more like putting on toothpaste and if everything doesn't go just right, there will be more buildup to deal with.A tig produces artwork quality,a mig is more chancy for delicate work.

You can get better looking welds with a TIG weld because you can control the amount of metal you put down. MIG is set by the spool feed, and would be a hassle to constantly adjust.
