They mention thermostat, a good place to start. However do not believe the one that said cylinder heads/gaskets do not cause overheating as they most certainly do.Does anyone know of an inexpensive scan tool to reset the engine light on a 1995, C280 Mercedes?
A qualified mechanic with an infared thermometer and a compression test and a radiator cap tester wouuld be in order.

Who changed the Water Pump and the Radiator? These aren't do it yourself items generally speaking. I would suggest you should have some good will warranty with this OFFENDING SHOP(i get angrry when I see placed sticking it to the unknowledgeable.)
I've got a 2000 Dodge Caravan ... in the winter, when cold the car wouldn't go . and .?
Don't push the car as you can blow the head gasket through repeated overheating and who wants a 2,000bill instead of 40 for a thermostat or 20 for a radiator cap!

rule out the cylender head. If the head is bad, chances are the engine would not start, because, there would be no compressionHow much would you pay to see me blow up my Toyota Yaris?
A head is not really a problem for overheating. This usually has to do with compression. Check your thermostat. It may be stuck in the closed position. check you antifreeze...see if it smells burnt or has oil in it..also check your oil and see if there is antifreeze in it...the next thing to do would be run a compression check on each cylinder. ..better yet take it to a reputable mechanic. might wanna change that thermostat too man. but first make sure the cooling fans are coming on and that your radiator fins arent bent or plugged up with dirt and not lettin air pass through em. all this plays a factor on how cool your car runs. Can a 2002 Ford crown VIcoria run on ethanol??

try your thermostat it could be sticking closed and not letting the motor cycle antifreeze when the motor warms upif its overheating over35 or 40 mph that should eliminate the fan clutch or electric fan & assuming that there is no airflow obstruction (debris on the a/c condensor) you might have a air pocket trapped in the cooling system.sometimes they can be hard to get rid of. there should be a bleeder on the upper radiator tank, but be forwarned that its plastic & they get brittle fast,i wont open one unless i have another on hand.

I agree that you should change the thermostat, never replace one or two components of a system. Change or at least thoroughly check all related parts . One "trick" I learned years ago to check for possible cylinder head (or vacuum leaks) is to spray WD-40 between the head and block. If the idle increases, Problem found!Does a 88 Chevy S10 Blazer 4x4 have a fuel pump fuse, and yes, where?
Definitely check the thermostast, the WD-40 test, compression test, etc. But also check your hoses, if any have become kinked, or any small ones have come loose, or anything. A small leak from a small hose could keep water from getting to crucial areas of the engine, thus causing the overheating. Also, the temperature guage sensor may be messed up, and displaying high by false reading, so try replacing that too. A chilton's manual will help you determine proper compression range for your engine. Look for any leaks or fluid mixture. Oil in the water but not water in the oil usually means a cracked head or block. Both usually means a blown headgasket, or the seal has been broken on the headgasket. Rapid heating and cooling can easily cause this. Some leaks may be small, but large enough to change the reading, even if the engine isn't actually getting hot. Check your belts too. Also, the belt may be loose, and the slipping will make it difficult for the water pump to pump water.sounds like thermostat could be stuck.. if there is an easy access to it remove & put in pot of HOT water to check if it opens.
I have a cadillac that had the same problem. I changed out the Thermostat, then the water pump and had the cooling system flushed. Finally I discovered that I had a leaking head gasket and that was what was causing the overheating. Had new gaskets put in, and problem solved.
Should I run my car's engine whilst my foot is in plaster?
An easy way to check is to fill the radiator with a water/dye solution and let it idle for an hour or so. Then check for the colored water in your exhaust and also your oil. If its there, you have a gasket problem.
