it will detonate itself to death and if it doesn't do that the knock sensor might control the detonation sound by retarding the timing and your performance will suck to say the least.It will not run at it's full capabilities, it won't destroy the engine, but it could make the injectors plug more easily, therefore costing you more than it was worth putting in regular instead of the recommended premium.

Nothing will happen, other than the car will run really bad as it gets older , premium gas has the gas cleaner in with the gas so your getting two things for one price, it helps car get good milage and keeps fuel system cleaner,I lost my car keys, how do I get a new set?

The only thing which should happen is reduced performance, you will probobly not even notice the difference it will be so subtle. It will not blow up your engine. I would just reccomend that if you do put in lower grade gasoline to keep it at lower revs and dont put it in on a regular basis. If you put it in every other fill up you will be fineThe lower the octane, the more flammable the fuel, meaning it could cause preignition or "spark knock" Higher grade fuels will be harder to ignite due to heat and pressure like those in the cyl. It can be tuned up to run OK on lower grade fuels, but depending on the engine, that may not be enough. You can't tune the pressure out of the cyl., only timing (for this question) If you notice pinging or knocking as you accel, especially up hills, try a higher grade fuel.
The fuel is refined the same way and if you know how gas gets from crude oil to your car, youll know its all the same gas, throughout, with different additives with different companies. While it may be true that higher grade gas has more cleaning properties, it will not degrade performance per se, and will not make any impact (other than the cleaning agents) on dependability, as long as your not getting any pre-ignition. If you are worried about having it be clean, add Lucas upper cyl. lubricant (great stuff) every now and then.

But just in case that doesn't happen, you may find that you are getting engine knocking. If you continue to do this it may cause damage to the engine. If you forgot or was low on money, and put a tankfull in my mistake, I doubt seriously that one tankfull will make a difference at all. Besides you still had some premium in the tank when you filled it.
SN 14 is the only one so far that has any idea whatsoever what premium gas is. Octane reduces the peak pressures in high compression engines by burning slower. If you use too low octane, you'll get pinging, which won't destroy your engine, but isn't good for it. That sound is metal on metal contact. If you accidentally added regular or it was all you could find, just top it off with the highest octane gas you can get as soon as you can.

Not to start a debate, but spark knock CAN destroy an engine. Not likely to happen on one, or even a few, tanks of gas, however it does happen. I work with turbo charged cars a lot and when you use low octane fuel, it causes a lean burn, which can melt pistons (I know, I've seen it happen). If you hear a pinging, use the higher octane fuel.
