Question:
My gas tank has a hole in it and before I take it to a mechanic, I want to know if anyone has any idea what the price would be for a new gas tank for a 1998 Ford Taurus.
And just so you know, the tank has a hole in it about 1 1/2 inches square. Would that be small enough to patch?
Answers:
would it hurt to drive a car with a broken shock?
I just replaced mine, cost $40 from a junkyard for both the tank and fuel pump.YES YOU CAN REPAIR IT DRAIN ALL GAS BUY SOME GAS TANK REPAIR FROM AUTO PARTS STORE IT WORKS
You could easly patch it if you know how to weld or know someone that knows how to. but if you dont, it would proably cost around $250. hope this helps
the heater on my jag 3.2 sports is blowing cold air what is causing this?
There are patch kits available (NAPA, Advanced Auto Parts ..)The gas tank itself would be about 100, the labor on top of it would be about 200.
What kind of maintenance work should I do on my 1998 Isuzu rodeo at about 80k miles?
if you can pull the metal back out and make the hole smaller than yes you can patch it. and if you want to save money go to your auto parts store buy a book on your car and change it yourself. as far as the repair make sure you clean the area and then JB weld will do the rest. What causes the brakes to loose pressure when the car idles down on a 2002 Ford Focus?
The tank itself should be about $150 -$200 if you buy a new one, You may be able to save some money by getting a used tank from a recycling yard (junkyard). You can also expect to pay $100-$200 in labor to replace the tank, depending on the labor rate of the shop.I would not recommend patching a hole that large. it would be cheaper to replace the tank with a used one!!
Patching of fuel tanks is rarely successful. The only repair I've seen work, (out of many, many I've seen atttempted), is a "sloshing compound" that I purchased from an aircraft repair facility. It is a little on the expensive side and pretty labor intensive so I would only use it on a tank that was very hard to find or very expensive. The Taurus does not fit the "hard to find" or "very expensive" catagory. In my shop a new aftermarket tank on a Taurus would probably run about $300 installed. A good used tank would probably be around $200 installed. I hope this helps you. Good luck!
Have a '97 Jeep GC Laredo that has a hard time shifting from 3rd gear into 4th.?
no idea on price, would call around local parts stores and get prices ,and the hole is repairable provided it is not badly rusted, but finding someone to repair it will be a task, most radiator shops did it years ago but nobody wants to fool withgas tanks any more and i dont blame them solidering on a gas tank is dangerious, and you may have a plastic tank and if so would check the junkyard for one since they dont rust outMore Questions & Answers ...
