If your speaking of more than 6mo, but less than 2 years...Your best bet is to change the oil and replace some via the valve covers themselves.like removing the PCV valve to pour oil through the port, clean it and replace the valve, fill your oil to a proper level and check the gas, if you can, add some to the stale gas in your tank. It may still run rough til you go through the tank of gas. Prob not a bad idea to use some cleaner on the second tank to take care of varnish that may have built up. DO NOT DRIVE right after starting it, let it idle for a while to work the oil around in the engine. It may tick or knock some due to the lack of oil throughout the engine, let it run at idle til this quiets down.then you should be fine... If your talking years of sitting, you will want to replace the gas before you attempt to start it.Where on 95 7.3 deisel would you find glow plug relay?
what do you mean by a long time? A week, a year, a decade? If the engine has been sitting for the winter, then you may want to pull the plugs and squirt a small amount of oil into the cylinders to help them get oil until the pump can get oil to them. Maybe drain the fuel and replace with fresh. Inspect all other fluids before driving the car. you didnt say HOW long...if the battery is ok, or has been charged, spray the ..something [I recognize it] with starting fluid you buy at the store.if it is parked on a hill, put it in neutral and get someone to give a push; it may start as it goes down the hill[.try starting it as it goes down the hill]if it has set TOO long, and has a fuel injector thing, it may need replacing.and it is usually in the gas tank isnt it.are you in Alaska,BTW?

You don't always have to do anything, some of them will start right up depending on what kind of condition they are in then some of them you may have to do all the things mentioned. If it will start a good battery will get it started no matter how long it has been sitting.More Questions & Answers ...
