Question:
It's been suggested by people here on Answers that my leaky tranny may only need something as simple as a new seal and some sealant. Sure that sounds cheap if I was doing the fix myself. But if I drive into a tranny shop, they're not going to agree with what I think, they'll want to get me for a rebuild. Outside of having a personal friend in the tranny business how do you get exactly and only what is needed?

Aamco will tell you that you need a rebuilt transmission if you come in to get the ashtray emptied.94 Camry Overheating HELP PLEASE!?
Oh man...DO NOT go to AAMCO, they have been on 20/20 a couple of times because they got caught lying to customers about needing overhauls on their trannies, but no work was done.I'd try to do it myself first. Get a buddy to help you out on a weekend or something.
ammco is going to inspect the tranny but removing the pan and looking for filing of metal and clutch material on the bottom of the pan and look at the valve body too then they will suggest that the tranny get rebuilt and since its all apart they show you the pan with silver filing on the bottom which is normal in most cases if it has chunks of metal thats diff. story there
so take it a shop and ask for a visual inspection not a pan drop inspection
Can a mobil mechanic charge you a fee even if he didn't fixed your car ?
if u get someone that is gonna be cool at the tranny shop he will just replace the seal but if u get someone that will not be cool they wanna rebuild it not replace the sealGet a scond opinion. Safe bet would be that if two shops tell you the same thing then perhaps it is more than a seal. I had this happen on a 92 Dodge Carvan and three different shops told me the same thing. Depending on the car/truck it may have done damage to something inside. Best of Luck
No one on here can answer your question with out actually seeing or checking over your car.. they can suggest things but they may all be wrong . but any reputable shop will give you an estimate before doing any work . Take it to more then one shop . tell them you don't have a lot of money and ask them what they can do to fix it ..
other then that ..
there are so many reasons a trany can leak .. I didn't see your original question so I can't tell you any more than that ..
What is a diagnostic code scanner?

Why did my 2001 chevy venutere say low oil pressure then then engine start stalling all of a sudden?
yes, it is that simple.
Most shops you try to take your car's transmission to for repairs are going to want to rebuild the transmission. This way, they'll be able to give you the warranty they advertise. The only chance you would have is to state that you want them to make the repair you specify and will sign an agreement on the invoice that the repair does not have any warranty. Someone will likely take you up on this type of offer.
