Question:
There is a 1976 Vauxhall Cavalier near me, and it has been in storage after it's elderly owner could no longer drive it. It's in near perfect condition. I'd love to buy the car and use it, however it has been in storage for the past 6 years.
How much would it cost to get a new coat of paint on my car?
What should i look out for when i try to get it running again? All i can guess is it will need a new battery!

Do not rush things! Before even trying to start the engine change the oil, remove spark plugs & spray some upper cylinder lubricant through the plug holes. Turn the engine over by hand (a socket & ratchet on the crankshaft pulley) to get oil round the engine. If you put some fuel in the tank at the same time, it will have the bonus of pumping fuel up to the carburettor. Bear in mind that things like hydraulic seals in the braking system and rubber suspension components may have deteriated with time, so be prepared to replace these. The electrics may have suffered with damp & may need attention. Keep it as a hobby for a month or two to bring it back to life, It will appreciate the warmer weather. Best of luck!
You've GOT to drain and replace ALL the fluids. And you'll likely need to replace all hoses and belts too. Perhaps tyres as well.
Dose anyone know where I can get a workshop repair manual for a 1998 Renault espace 2.0l auto ?
I had my car in storage for 5 years and had it towed to the garage to get it ready for the road again. After all the fluids and rubber parts were changed, it started right up!
Had it tuned - plugs and all, and all adjusted, and it was in great shape! I just sold it last month and managed to get 500 quid more than I paid back in 2000!
Were can i find 1981 buick century tail light lenses at?
check oil, water, and all other fluid levels, new battery.. then try it.. dont expect it to roar into life at the first time, as maybe, the old boy couldnt afford repairs.. g.luckHow do you use a spark tester?
you can look forward to persished bushes, binding brakes and damp ignitionI am not very familiar with vehicles but I do know that when anything has been sitting that long it would be a good idea to change ALL Fluids and replace filters. I would probably also give it a tune up, check tires for wear and weather checking and so on. You should also think about draining the gas tank and lines to avoid getting bad gas running through your car. I'm not certain if this is necessary, and I think there might be products you can add to the tank to prevent problems. Might be something to research a little further before turning the key though!
Drain and replace all the fluids including gasoline, check all the hoses for leaks and cracks, check the wiring for breaks and damage, replace tune up parts (cap/rotor/wires/plugs). You don't have to do all of that but it will give you the best end result. Also if at all possible you should remove the fuel line before the pump (if its mechanical) or disconnect it if electronic and disconnect the ignition and crank the motor for about 30 seconds to build up oil pressure and lubricate everything before trying to start it. This will help protect seals and bearings from unnecessary wear. You should also take it easy on the car for the first few drives to allow everything to "settle" back into place. You may also need to replace the tires, so check their condition and air pressure before driving off.

Is propane injection safe for diesels?
Before you even start this car, remove the spark plugs and put some engine oil on top of the pistonsTo avoid any metal to metal contact when you start the engine. Next the brakes are most probably siezed up, especially the rear brakes when the handbrake has been left on. Remove the wheels and then take off the handbrake and then rmove the brake drums, and make sure they expand when the brake pedal is deperesses. and there is no rust on the pads or linings. Then you can drive away.I have an Astra 1.6 2003 plate. My car has started to feel stuttery and has stalled in mid ride?
Sorry,Why do cars sometimes gives a light ELECTRIC SHOCK after turning ignition off?
Only know how to start a car that's stored for 5.
When a car has been in storage for that long, there is a risk that the seals have dried out and when you get it running they will leak and some of them can be expenseve to replace. I would remove the spark plugs and put a small amout of motor oil into each cylinder and turn the engine over by hand to get some oil in the cylinder walls, then put in new spark plugs and battery and try to start.
Any one tried carplan Triple Wax Metallic ?
One of the most critical things you need to do is make sure you empty the gas tank of any old fuel. Fuel that has been sitting there for that long can clogg up your fuel system and then you will have a major problem. Have you heard of STA-BIL?? It helps to prevent the fuel from deteriorating. The person who put it in storage probably didn't use any type of fuel stabilizer. I wouldn't risk it. Just drain the tank if there is any fuel in there. I would also take it off the vehicle and flush it clean. There may be dirt or other particles in there. Once you have done that I would replace the battery, spark plugs, and clean the carb. I also recommend that you change the oil and make sure all the fluid levels are good before you attempt to turn the vehicle on. Hopefully all the other basic parts of the car still work, like the alternator, water pump, etc. If not, just replace the parts that are not working and you should be good to go. Remember to put fresh clean fuel in the car. I would also change the fuel filter just to make sure that no unwanted particles are running through the fuel system that could clogg it up. You also don't want anything other than air and fuel going into your intake. I would also check and make sure that all your vacuum lines are connected and that you don't have an air leak. Change your air filter too. What does it mean when your car wobbles?
Hi2001 Hyundai Elantra A/C Compressor Replacement?
Before you do anything, remove all of the spark plugs, put the vehicle into neutral, and try to turn the engine over by hand. If all is okay in that department then you will need to give it a full and thorough service, including changing ALL fluids, and the timing belt, which will be 2 years out of date for a change, timewise.

first of all you need to turn the engine over by hand to make sure it has not seized,if OK then charge or replace battery remove and clean or replace spark plugs, check for fuel in carburetor and start engine once started make sure the clutch plate hasn't stuck to the flywheel if it has it is possible to break it free by starting the car with the gear engaged .You then need an mot whereby everything else relative to safety will be checked.of course make sure all the oils and fluids are correct before starting car
