Tips for redoing the interior of a truck. want to pull carpet out and reupholster. will be a DIY. Any tips?

Question:
I'm wanting to completely redo the interior of my truck myself. Any suggestions on what I should do about trim pieces, dash, carpet, headliner and seats? It will be a DIY project for me since I don't want to pay the high prices that upholstry shops charge. I know what colors I want to use and a basic idea of where to start but suggestions would be appreciated.

Answers:

How do dealerships restore the interior of used cars, what do they put on the carpet to make it look new?

You didn't say what kind or how old your truck is, but here's a few suggestions:
1) Remove everything, especially the seat and carpet or floor mat.
2) Scrub everything loose with a brush and clean it out with a shop vac
3) Rustoleum now makes paint for plastic, seems like a good idea if you're changing interior colors.
There are many aftermarket suppliers for old trucks and most of them will have interior parts. Search the web.
4) Most salvage yards will have trim and seat belts but may not inventory them, you might have to search the yard a bit.
5) Most older trucks either didn't have a headliner, or it was an option. Hence, you might be able to remove it and paint the roof instead, though the cab might be a bit noisier.
6) there are many aftermarket suppliers for restoration parts on older trucks, just search the web.
