Question:
the lights got dimmer and dimmer as i was driving, then it just stopped, and there is no life left in the engine, anyone got any ideas, to pint me in the right direction?

i own a repair shop and it sounds like the alternator just went out on it and it ran every bit of juice the battery had in it right out of it,it probably wont even light anything up now,and there's a good chance it may have even ruined the battery also from this happening,you can take the alternator and battery to any auto zone or advance auto parts store and have them checked for free,and this way you,ll know for sure what it is or isn't,but for now that's all i know to tell you to try on it,good luck with it hope this helps.dead battery; insufficent charging system to start>

Does this estimate sound reasonable for these car repairs?
If it slowly died as you were driving it is the alternator. The batteryu is no use to an automobile once the car is started. It is your altenator, no doubt about it.Why would a 96 conture still run hot(not overheating though). I just changed the thermostat.?
charge your battery..have it load tested to be sure it,s still good...then start your car.....with a volt meter across both battery terminal,s..you should get a reading of at least 12.5 volts.....now turn on your light,s,radio,and anything else electrical....it should never go below 12 volt,s...normal charging should read 12.5 to 14 volt,s maximum......if your not getting this...check & clean all your electrical connection,s....starting at your battery,to your alternator,to your starter,& make sure all ground connection,s are good...sound,s like you need a new alternator..but check all wire connection,s first...hope this help,s..good luck.More Questions & Answers ...
