Question:
Hello everyone, I new to this but could definately use some help. I have a 2001 oldsmobile alero with 85,000 miles on it. I am a college student in Michigan and have to leave my car out for extended periods of time in the cold. My car was running fine, and after it sat out for about two weeks I went to drive it again and it didn't run well. The problem is that it takes some time and jumps when starting from rest. When I come to a stop and my car idles, it then jumps and takes a while to start going. The rpm's jump up and down during this period as well. To make things worse, my car died when I went down a hill idling, and then tried accelerating back up a hill, but I had no problem restarting. I think it is the transmission, but don't know a lot about cars and don't have a repair shop close enough that I could drop it off for a weekend. If anyone has any clues or advice I would appreciate it GREALTY! I sincerely thank you for your time.

Sorry it doesn't sound like the transmission at all. If the car moves with out whats called slipping ( the engine has high rpm's without moving or moves slowly ) and shifts gears without slipping its not the transmission. A transmission either moves the vehicle or doesn't. It doesn't make a car jump around. It sounds like the motor is causing you the problem. You should start by making sure all of the plug wires are connected securely and there aren't any dirt doper nest on the coil nor the carburetor. If it has set for a long period of time ( several months ) the fuel could be bad. When the rpm's jump up and down this means the cars engine is trying to stop running. Also check your air-filter. If all looks good, your spark plugs and wires may be bad. You also need to pull the oil dipstick out and make sure it doesn't have a milky substance on it. That would mean you have a blown head gasket or cracked block. Did you check the antifreeze before you parked it in the cold? If either happened, it would cause the engine to run hot. After saying all this, if you mean that the engine runs fine and it is slipping or acting as if it has a stall torque converter in it. Then it has transmission problems. Fluid pressure is the cause of that. Which is either the front pump, torque converter, low fluid, or the filter.More Questions & Answers ...
