you will get a better ring seal if you keep your rpm to under 4000 to 4500 for the first 1000 miles. also you should aloow it to idle or keep your revs to a minimum while the engine is cold. never rev a cold engine.where do some people get these answers?
very important to keep an eye on the oil & coolant. change the oil & filter at about 500 miles and again at 1000 miles. then every 2500 - 2000 miles.

You got to understand whats going on when an engine has just been built and needs to be broken in. all of your bearing surfaces and piston ring tolerances are tight still and need proper time to burnish and wear in correctly before it can be ran at normal operating conditions. worst case sinario.....you end up swelling a main bearing or the piston rings wont set in and the thing starts smoking before too long. Better yet the cam wont burnish to the tappets and you round off a couple of lobes. Break in is very crutial to the start off of a could be long life power plant high performance or not. Could it make it effect the speed? Yes. Its also a good way to prematurly break the engine down as well.What would be an average price a mechanic would charge to check out a vehicle?

Ok first off if this is a newer model car no need to break in they are already broke in when you buy them. Second I have been told by many dealership mechanics. Drive it from day one like you gonna drive it forever. In other words if you have no intentions on babying it do not do so. Raw hide it from day one. I have a 01 Grand Prix GTP that I have ran hard since day one. The only problem I have ever had was a tranny going out at 110000 miles. I spray this car with a 150 shot of nitros on top of it.
