Question:

I need to replace one inner and one outer tie rod, diff sides of course.... 2 estimates (w/alignment) were $360 & $400...I need to do it myself.. I know about the tie rod tools ( I own none)... Does anyone know where I can purchase a tire wheel for a 2003 Ford ZX2 automobile?
Thanks from the guy who will be freezing his butt off this Saturday under a frickn' Mazda...
Answers:
You can usually get them off with a good smack with a hammer, don't hit the tie rod or the nut but hit it on the side on the part that the threaded part goes through. The shaft on tie rods are tapered and pressed in when bolted tight. Before taking the old one off take some measurements so you can get the alignment as close as possible once done.
the tie rod is conical(taper plug) it fit in the same shape hole. (is very much like a ring to it.)
if You hammer very hard to the outside part of that ring ,the tie rod will fall ,due to the taper form
do not use air hammer is workless.
