Check Engine Light and Key Position ?

Question:
When i turned the key to the on posititon, the panel lights come on. The check engine light comes on then goes off. Then when i turn the key to the start position, the check engine light comes on and stays on...Does this help anyone elimited some of the possible problems ?

it sounds like a bad wire someplace if it was not on befor and now it is but when you turn the key n it comes on then gose out then when you start it it comes on and stays on if it was a big problem the light would stay on all the time from the time you turn the key on to the point of starting it but have it checked with a computer just to make sure it could have been when they reprogramed the dash
