EVERY OIL CHANGE! LOL CHANGE THE OIL AND FILTER EVERY 3K MILES OR 3 MONTHS. WHICH EVER COMES FIRST. ROTATE YOUR TIRES EVERY 6 MONTHS AND HAVE YOUR BRAKES INSPECTED AT THE SAME TIME! Change the filter the same time you change your oil. Also it would be good if you put oil in the filter by a funnel and soak the filter element. This helps lower the dry start time and lowers engine wear. Hand tighten your filter as much as it will go, there is no need for tools to tighten. u can keep ur oil filter for about 6,000 mile if u ar using a full synthetic motor oil,this mean u change oil without the filter at first time and next time with the filter.i have been doing this with my car for 6 years,and the engine is still running perfectly.
but if u ar using a normal mineral oil,i strongly recommend that u change the filter every time oil changed.

Remember the filter is just as important as the oil is, if the same filter is left on and only the oil is changed then how does the filter collect debris if it is basically depleted?
