What's wrong with my car?

Question:
I have a '04 Pontiac Sunfire and yesterday while driving it, I noticed a difference how hard I had to push the gas pedal just to get it to go 25mph. It started making a noise as though it was struggling and a few minutes later the speedometer stopped working. It has never had any problems before and I am the second owner and do nothing out of the ordinary with it. Please help!

how fast do clutches burn up on manual cars?

It sounds like the speed sensor is bad, and the transmission is not shifting correctly because of the lack of correct information from that sensor. Have the computer scanned for codes, and if it is the speed sensor, have it replaced!!

Somebody..Help!?

before you start your car or drive it anywhere it could be as easy as checking the level of your coolant and make sure none is spilling out and deffinatly check your oil make sure it's just a little above the fill line so your not overheating your engine and running it on low oil...

We need a lot more information to be more specific with any advice. I suggest you take it to a garage. Simply by the fact that it runs bad and the speedometer quit working, I would guess that maybe you have a computer problem. When you say "hard I had to push the gas pedal", do you mean it was difficult to push or that you had to push it farther down? Pushing it farther down because it has no power could be an indication that the gas mixture is not correct. That would point to one of the sensors malfunctioning and causing the computer to misapportion the fuel mixture. There are many things that can cause your symptoms. It could be your catalytic converter is stopped up but that wouldn't cause the speedometer to quit. I need more information or I could just go on and on.

When do i need replace my o2 sensor and spark plugs?

To me it sounds transmission related. The speedo and transmission are directly related. A sensor in the transmission sends the signal for the speed by either wire or cable. My first suggestion is to check the transmission fluid, it should be a reddish color when in sun light. If it smells burnt in any way that is a bad sign for that year model car. If it is dark brown or has particles in it the transmission is likely the problem. If the car has less than 36,000 miles or is less than 36 months old it is still under factory warranty. The only other thing I can think of is possibly an electrical short maybe in a wiring harness or something along that line.
