no its almost always on the front of the engine, or a safe thing to say is its always right above the crankshaft. It will have a pulley on the end of it.

NO. It is at the end of the hose that comes out of the bottom of the radiator. Old school had them pretty much driven by the drive belt or fan belt.
But on them there new fangled GM motors they are actually at the back and driven off the cam. It's crazy man Crazy

It is on the front of the engine block. Just find the belt that goes around the crankshaft, alternator, fan, etc. The belt also goes around the water pump.
