Where is the fuel filter in a 96 taurus?

it sounds like you may have an issue with the grounding system of your car. there are two options, 1. disconnect the ground wire from your battery. then unbolt it from the body and clean both contacts up with some sand paper and reconnect everything. or, 2. you can upgrade these wires on your own by purchasing some 4 gage wire from a car audio store and some connectors. this is most frequently done on cars with sound systems. the wires that you will want to upgrade are the "Big Three": 1) alternator positive to battery positive, 2) battery negative to chassis, and 3) engine ground to chassis
be sure to leave the factory wiring in place, as it will serve as a backup in case of problems with your new wiring.

Don't know what year but you may want to check the connections on the cables to make sure both ends are tight and also check the tensioner on the serpentine as if it is weak it will loosen the belt and cause the alternator to slow down.

You might have the alternator checked at a second source, I really place my money on the regulator. Once again most regulators are in the alternator but if you have an older vehicle it may be outside the alternaotr and this would then be the problem

2000 mercury grand marquis-some dash lights and tail lights died at the same time?

You may have a loose belt if you said it's ok at idle, it's only when you drive it's the problem. The easy way to check the alternator is to disconnect the battery cable while it's running to see if it stays running. The alternator would be doing what it's supposed to do, if not it's bad. If you have a bad cable or connection going to the battery could cause it also. Good luck

Transmission Solenoid and Sensors in a 98 Ford Windstar...?

If you've already had the battery and alternator checked and they're good, more than likely your ground wire is loose or broken. You need to make sure the alternator belt is tight, and if it is, then check the following.

Why does my car an acura cl 1998, run even after the key is removed from the ignition?

You have two battery posts, one of them has another wire attached, follow this wire to the starter, (located on the underside of the engine) the wire should be tight and unbroken, if it's loose you must tighten the nut holding it in place. This should fix the problem.

What is the difference between gelcoat and clear coat ?

still several possibilities. something as simple as a blown fuse to a corroded or broken wire, or even a loose belt. later model cars use a lot of juice from the battery to keep all the electronics working properly. at idle, there is less use because of less rpm and less computer usage because most idle plans don't require constant changes from the computer as they do while driving the car. also, if its an automatic, late models mostly use electronics to make the tranny shift. ya might have a mechanic take a look rather than pay a tow bill when it dies from a dead battery. good luck with it.
