Question:
I just bought a 2000 accord and thus far haven't had problems with it but today we had a huge rain storm and I had to drive through some standing water on the way home...now the car is making a squealing type of sound when I accelerate. What could this be caused by? Husband suggested that I let the car dry out overnight and see if that fixes anything but could this be a serious problem? All the belts are brand new so I don't think this would really be causing it. Thanks:)
How much cost to fix car harness wiring?
*EDIT* If it is the belts slipping will this stop after it all gets dried out?

Can i drive my car when the slave clutch cylinder is leaking?
I am surprised noone asked about the belt tensioner. That sounds like a loose belt. Normally when its dry the belt has enough traction on the pulleys. When it is wet though, it should not be slipping if it was tight as factory specification. Many new cars have belt tentioners that tighten it for you. If you bought it at a dealer they should take care of it for free. Most likely if you bought it from a dealer it has a new belt, because the car is "reconditioned." So unless the belt is new, take the oppetunity to replace it now.You can get away with not doing it, you just want to squeel as little as possible. If it doesn't have a tentioner, it would more likely squeel more easily. And NO, NO car with the belt and it's tension are in secifications squeel, water or not.
Another thought: I have noticed that new belts loosen up after breaking in.
yes. big puddle=wet belts=squeaky noise. bet you a best answer that your husband is right and the problem is gone in the morning.
it is indeed the belts, and your husband is right, just let it dry out. Now the problem is that they might crack now that they have been through that much water. But I think you will be ok.
it is most likely the belts slipping a bit because they are wet. it should go away after sitting overnight
i own a repair shop, and this problem will probably go away on it ,id say you got the belts wet on it,id be real careful about going through water that high with it ,you can mess it up good from doing this, its a van remember this, not a jeep, high water can cause some damage to it,good luck hope this helps.
My Ford Focus idle rough only when the temperature is below 40 degrees. No codes come up.?
We had a couple of Dodge/Chrysler vehicles that did that when the car got wet underneath. It's the bottom pulley in your accessory belts getting splashed while you drive around. The noise should eventually go out on its own.You should have the dealer check out the car and see if perhaps one of the undercarriage engine covers is lose or missing. But typically, if you drive it around the block, it will dry itself out, though.
it does sound like the belts.and if they dont quit when dry have them tightened
yeah its a pretty common. usually in rain or when its really cold outside you have to let it warm up and it goes away
1990 honda accord - small fuel leak by the left rear tire - not the filler tube. any help?
It the Serpentine Belt. That what make your Alternator and AC run off the engine. If. it squeal when wet it may need replaced. Normally there a pulley keep it tight, when it squeal it worn and need replaced, or, you be walking. Some guys may do this for a kiss, mechanics charge $15-30. IF you try Autozone and someone free to help, they may do it for free. I would give the person a few bucks in the pocket, then they like you and will help again later.
