Confirm: coveralls for working don't come in 100% synthetic because they'll melt when exposed to heat or fire?

Question:
So, if I simply insist on wearing 100% synthetic coveralls, is it OK to wear Nomex coveralls to work, even though they cost 2-3X as much? Or will the other auto mechanics in the shop laugh at me, or the boss require me to change, or will everyone follow my lead and switch?

Yes synthetic is a kind of plastic that will melt or catch on fire when exposed to heat or flame. Nomex is a fire retardant material use by fire fighters etc. Will be expensive, especially in a shop where you may have to clean daily due to grease, dirt etc. Your choice, but may be a bit of overkill depending on your particular job assignment, working conditions etc.

How do I remove water/moisture from a gas tank?

Nomex is fire retardant so I don't see a problem. We got issued Nomex coveralls in the Army because of that. However, your boss may just be concerned about his insurance and liability issues, and need to be educated. As for your co-workers, let them laugh if they want. Wear what works for you.
