there is a sensor on your air intake hose that tells the engine computer what temp the air is that it is bringing into the engine then ajusts the fuel mix acourdingly. it uses this same sensor to tell you what temp it is outside

transmission problem it will not go in to third gear?

It probably has a thermostat somewhere discreet on the exterior of the car, possibly underneath.
