I'm assuming you mean oil.
When in doubt, put about 3 qts in it, run it for 60 seconds to make sure there's oil throughout the engine and oil pan, then check the dipstick. Make sure you wipe it off and put it back in so that you're not reading what splashed up. If the dipstick reads on the "low" mark it's exactly a quart low. If it doesn't read at all add a quart and check again. Use the difference between the low and full marks to tell how much you should add (IE halfway between, add half a quart).
Why is my 1988 nova acting up in cold weather?
I do this on all my cars because even if you know exactly how much oil goes in, you never know how much came out. On a BIG V6 (truck) or a V8 I would start at 4 qts instead.
1998 expedition 4wd seems to sag in rear- anyone use air bags to stiffen the rear suspension?
4. Make sure you start it for a few seconds - at least until the light goes off, shut down, wait a couple of minutes for oil to drain back into the pan, and re-check.More Questions & Answers ...
