Question:
The car is a 2005 model with triptronic gearbox. Took it to a mechanic who did the engine diagnostics and says that it could be a gearbox fault and might need replacement. He's advised me to take it to a vauxhall main dealer. Car has done about 80K miles. I took the car about 6 months back and has been driving beautifully until last week. Any advise would be welcome. If gearbox needs change, any idea what it would cost me and what alternatives are available in the market. Sorry, but am a car nerd!!

it still under warrenty now get it to vauxhall and get it cheacked by the dealer (who train there mechanics to know what there doing) and get it done properly

what did the mechanic do for diagnostic testing??..did he use a scanner, and if so, what did it say...sound slike you could have a bad sensor of some sort..like an O2 sensor...that will make it underpowered....try another mechanic...let me know...good luck !i am looking to buy a truck but i don't want to pay to much a k w or f l or pb?
I could be wrong, but I don't think its likely to be the gear box (this might be a seperate fault), it might be poor or bolcked air intake, or a blocked catalytic converter?D ont go worrying yourself m8, I dont think there is anything wrong with your auto gearbox. I agree with the person that it could be an oxygen sensor or one of many.
9 times out of ten it is usually something simple on an engine with an auto box, when was it nlast serviced? how long have you had the car? did u know any previous owners? were they young boy racerish or respectable family or older person.
If it has been well serviced and looked after then its got to be something simple, remember you really have to do something crazy to knacker up an engine with an auto box. It may be down to a blocked fuel filter have your plugs and leads checked, is the engine running well? meaning is it not misfiring.
If you are worried about your gear ,box and as it has done 80k also car is virtually brand new, first approach your main dealer and see if they will help you, ok the car is out of warranty but a gearbox should last longer than 80k without giving in unless it was ill treated. Are u ist owner? or how many? has it been dealer serviced from new? then you could be in with a chance, so dont waste time contacting them, but keep calm as it will help you get places.
Car lost power. Now engine will not turn over.?
Now if dealoer refuses outright,then take your car to an autobox specialist who will service the box for you after making sure the box is at fault. The box is serviced in situe so wont cost u a packet and when done ur car will feel brand new. The box may just want oil but if i were u I would get it serviced, I use to have all my auto cars boxes servised and what a difference, if the gearbox is low in oil the car could lack power>
