Question:
Mercedes Benz 1983 200 Carbrature:
I have changed the rotor recently (two weeks ago) and I have adjusted it to the proper timing. I have changed the plugs also before that but someone told me that the plugs could go bad from humidity while being stored!
Could it be true that the piston knocking and loss of power I experience is due to the bad spark plugs?
Thanks
Answers:
The only way spark plugs could go bad from humidity while being stored is if they rusted, and that would be obvious by looking at them. When you say the engine is 'knocking', is it a loud metallic BAM, or more of a rattling noise under acceleration? if it's the former, you could have a bad rod, which is not the spark plugs, but a serious problem, which you should take to a mechanic ASAP. If it's a rattling noise under acceleration, first make sure the timing and specifications on your motor are correct, if they are new plugs it is EXTREMELY unlikely, unless they are the wrong type for your car, that they are the problem. It is VERY important that you use the proper spark plugs in a modern engine, not just what you have on hand. And when I say 'modern engine', I mean anything built after WWII (that means world war 2, not some early version of the internet) :) If it's a rattling noise under acceleration try using a higher octane gasoline, as the higher octane fuels resist 'knocking' better than lower octane.
2002 ford Taurus Starting problem.?
"Octane rating: The octane rating of a fuel is indicated on the pump—using numbers such as 87, 90, 91, etc. The higher the number, the greater the octane rating of the gasoline. The octane rating represents the "antiknock" properties of the fuel. The higher the number, the slower the fuel burns—and the less likely your engine will knock"

Altho it's probably expensive, take it to a mechanic and make sure the carb and timing are properly adjusted, and if you had this done by a mechanic, take it back and tell him to get it right, if he tells you "your plugs are bad because they're old" kick him very hard, tell him he's an idiot, and find another, knowledgable mechanic.
what degree should the 2 outside mirrors be adjusted on a car?
And take it to a mechanic if it's a really loud noise!!!
Should you change both headlamps on your car at the same time?
it sounds like what your getting is called spark knock,,this is caused by one sitting for a while due to the gas loosing some of its potency, other wise if its actually not miss-firing any at all id just get some good gas in it,and see if that helps it,,good luck hope this help,s.,,have a good x-mas.sounds like you could have have blown a gasket, good luck
have I just wrecked my car battery, by jump starting it with a diesel van?

My car will start in this cold weather, but?
go with dodgeman get some new gas and an additive for moisture and please recheck your timing again, was it with the vacumn disconnectedI own a 2000 Dodge Durango and at certain speeds I hear a noise and feel a vibration?
I'm with dodge man....get some fresh fuel in the car if its been sitting for a while and if that don't work then worry about spending money on a proper tune up.sounds like the distributor timing, spark is igniting the fuel too early, get it tuned .
How do I get my van out the mud?
I agree with Dodge Man..... I would say spark knock....if your gas is old get new gas and try an octnae booster. Also are the plugs new? wires good? Are the wires hooked up right in the correct firing order?Revving problem with a 91 Toy ta Celica?
it could be a connecting rod knock, pull spark plugs wires one at a time and when the knock goes away you know what cylinder is suspectMore Questions & Answers ...
