Question:
My dad has driven a stick for a years. there are times i allow him to borrow my car so he does not have to drive his huge truck to far away meetings. I just found out that when he has used my car (which is auto) he will pull up the emg break after he turns the car off. he is not on a hill either. Is this bad for the car?
Answers:
isn't that what your supposed to do. the emergency brake is just a new name for the hand brake. and the hand break is to stop your car from rolling away when you park. even on a perfectly flat place i would put the brake on. and no it will do absolutely no damage, in fact i would advise you to do it all the time
No it isn't bad for the car. In fact, it's a good idea to use the emergency break every so often, regardless of whether you think you need it or not, to make sure it actually will work when you need it, and won't be siezed up.

It is a good idea, using the hand brake/park brake also assiste with the automatic adjuster of your rear brakes. (Especially with drum type brakes)More Questions & Answers ...
