I have to hit my starter motor with a wrench in order to start the car, what could be wrong in the starter?

Question:
The problem is getting worse. Is there a fix I can perform or is a new starter the only remedy??

Where is the ABS control on a 98 Chevy venture and how difficult is it to replace?

It sounds to me like you may have a bad contact inside the motor. I am experiencing the same problem with the fan motor on my Chevrolet. The only problem is that fan motors are rarely rebuilt or rebuildable as cores. A starter motor can be taken apart to a degree. My recommendation is to do one of two things, based on your knowledge of electric motors: One is to obviously take it apart and fix it, and the second is to find a store or factory that rebuilds starter motors. These parts are as good as new, go through extensive factory testing, and are less due to many of the housings and main components only needing cleaning and minor maintenance compared to milling or forging a new part. In addition, you can save a few bucks by exchanging your old motor with a rebuild. Starter motors can be a pain in the butt either way, but it'll be worth it not to whack your starter with a wrench every morning.

do you think they should have a sub catergory under cars and transportion for diesel trucks and trucking?

Go to auto parts store and find the difference between anew starter and replacing the bendix and the brushes and solenoid.Whichever is cheaper just do it.Sometimes you can find someone to rebuild instead of buying new and it only takes a couple of minutes to do.Good luck.
