why does my engine over rev. am i missing a spring on my carburator or is there a problem with the govoner?

If the engine idles o.k. and when you start to give it more throttle it speeds up to wide open, or full throttle, then the governor is probably trashed. The governor is a small plastic gear with a couple ear and springs attached and the plastic gear is probably broken. It is inside the engine and will require partial dis-assembly to get to it.

I doubt if its the governor,It usually causes the engine to slow down.when they go bad. they are supposed to work when the engine is under a load, there is a small hose that comes out of the crankcase to the carb(depending on the model) check for cracks there. also the carb might be lose.check the mounting bolts. if everything is ok ,the carb return spring or throttle spring is gone

look to see if the return spring is on the carburator, you should be able to move it without feeling any binding, and it should bounce back to the idle control and sit against the adjustment screw
