no , you pay for the test.about $29
if you fail, most places will do the retest for free..ask them..
once you pass you will need to pay for the certificate $20
so it is $50 + any repairs they will probably make you buy a gas cap $12 even if nothing is wrong...
the whole thing is a scam
the cost limit is now $1000
and it has to be failed at 3 different stations
it was $500..
are we having fun yet..
remember this when you vote next time.
.just say no to the people making these laws..

New tires with sidewall cracking?

I don't believe there's a "fee" for failing a smog test, but you may need some work on your car in order to pass the smog test. I would think you'd be charged for another test as well as the work on your car that needs to be done to correct the problem with your catalytic converter

Hi could anyone tell me where the cold start needle/valve is on an escort xr3i mk5?

there is no fee for failing the test, but you will have to make repairs, however there is a $ limit to the repairs that could get you a waver if exceeded plus you will have to be retested once repairs are made or possible sent to a referee. Your SMOG station person can tell you what the cost limit is.
