Question:
It's about that time when I should be replacing the timing belt for my A6. I was also told that I have a slight drip from my cam tensioner gasket.
I was quoted $800 to replace the 2 gaskets and $450 for the timing belt. Seems a little high considering much of the work for the gasket replacements will be done when getting to the timing belt.
How many total labor hours should this take? Does the price seem right (given I live New York)?

I have tried screwdrivers dosent work .. and a tire iron ..?
I just got the cam tensioner changed on my A4 1.8TQWhat engine parts are interchangable?
Valve Cover Gasket Set $36
Cam Adjuster Gasket Set $9.13
Timing Chain Tensioner $511
Labor $360.00
Timing chain and water pump would have added an additional $150. This is not from a dealership but from my trusted hungarian independent euro shop. I know its a different car but maybe it's close enough to get an idea. Hope it helps.
I'm in SoCal btw. Was finished in four hours.
How do I remove an aftermarket emblem on a car without affecting the paint/body?
That's about the going rate most of it labor, the belts run $30-$80 tensioner about the same, gaskets $15-$40 the rest is labor. It would be a lot cheaper to do it yourself.More Questions & Answers ...
