Question:
When I started my Ranger this morning it made a clacking noise and stalled quickly. After giving it some gas for about a minute it was running, but seemed not at full speed and the clacking noise was still going. I looked under the hood and the top pulley (the highest one up) was starting and stopping about every 5-10 seconds, which was the cause of the noise. I still drove it to school today and it seemed to run normal Anyone know what the problem is?
Why is my signal blink so fast?
Thanks

Does adding fuel additives to your gas, like Additech at Walmart, really work?

How to test a MAF sensor when the car doesn't run. 85 300zx n/a?
That top pulley is probably driving your AC. There is a clutch inside the pully that lets it spin freely (AC off, pulling no power from the engine) or engages it (AC on, using that belt to power the compressor to cool the air). If the clutch is going out, that type of random thing could happen. If the clutch was trying to stick the it could cause the truck to try to stall as the engine was having to turn past a stuck pulley.Power window on my son's truck won't roll up all the way?
That's probably the air conditioner compressor. The clutch or bearings have gone bad or the pistons are slapping. It was starting and stopping because if the compressor doesn't work a pressure switch will cause it to cycle. You need to fix it now because if you lose the pulley your alternator, power steering and water pump all quit when the belt falls off. It might have been worse if you had the ac or the defroster on.More Questions & Answers ...
