Question:
Also, say im accelerating hard in 2nd gear, get it up to 6500 rpms, then go to third and start out at 4000 rpms (my car has quicker acceleration in this range). Is this bad for the clutch? Would it be easier on the clutch to skip third and go to 4th or 5th gear to start out at lower rpm's?
Answers:
- hold the clutch pedal down
- tach up the engine to redline and hold it there
- move your foot sideways off the clutch ("sidestep") and let the clutch spring take over
- hold on and hope parts of your driveline don't come up through the floor!
- NOTE- before doing this, arrange for a ride to the parts store for a new clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, driveshaft, bearings, clutch cable, etc, etc, etc
You want an honest answer, if you come on Y!A? to ask this question and say you are trying to drive like your racing. Your best bet is to drive normal, your gonna damage your car and get somoene killed, the racing you see in movies is done by professional drivers who have done it for years, they know what they are doing, if you keep up what your doing, your gonna get someone hurt.
Driving the car that hard is harder on the engine than the cluch side stepping the cluch would be lowering the rpms and shoving it into gear my guess.
Lets see, skip clutch. sounds like you might mess up the pressure plate and throughout bearings, depending on the make engine and transmission of the vehicle it could cost you a lot of money. My advice, understand your equipment. People drive around all the time trying to drive like racers and it's not good driving. I rather be a good driver and have control of my vehicle, Driving the speed limit, making perfect turns, control of the safty of the other drivers around me. Defensive Driving works way better than offensive driving. Because if you drive offensivily, you commit offenses. Offenses mean a officer is going to give you a ticket because you weren't being safe.
Besides if you are snaking that beast around top and decide to bust a 180 hole shot in the middle of a mud bog (mud bogs are safe places to rip on your gear, MT parking lot, car shows blah blah) you don't want to ruin your sweet low-low by skipping a clutch and tearing up your tatters. If you have a strong pressure plate, bearings, pressureplate, cams, crank, pumpkin (rear end), you wouldn't have to worry about burning up your rice burner.
What type of oil should be used in a cummins diesel?
Know your equipment. If it can be beat on (quality) then you have more play. If you don't know what it can do, your just being a bad driver who is out of control.
and to answer your questions, It means that your skipping the clutch (Sidestepping means to move the rear end out from straight to sideways) Yes it's bad for the clutch, don't do it. Don't skip your clutch unless you have NOS you grannyshifter, and make sure you have the right equipment when you drive and defense is better than offense.
If you are a mechanic, Plz answer this one for me... Thanks?
in race cars we never side step ..the reason is your foot is now under the clutch pedal it takes too much time to find the pedal and shift to 2nd.. it's a real rooky move..shift where your car accelerates the fastest ..that is the idea isn't it..
