Blue smoke indicates a worn engine.Could be valves or cylinders or both.ABS could just be a faulty switch. Not cheap whichever way you go.Could you please give me your opinions and feedback?
The blue smoke is oil being burnt, usually means a worn engine, though it could be valve guides which can usually be replaced. The ABS thing could just be a faulty sensor.Needs looking at by an intelligent garage.
as far as the blue smoke goes, could be piston rings, valve stem seals, or other internal wear. change the oil to synthetic next oil change to hide this problem(it doens't burn). the a.b.s. light needs immediate attention because the car is unsafe to drive.please take it to a well established repair facility.
Did they say what was causing these things? I had a Volvo for years and over time some of the emergency/warning lights would come on when nothing was wrong. You may need a new exhaust. In the 12 years I had that car I probably replaced about 9 exhausts. I believe this is why it was warrantied for life. I went to Midas finally and got a good muffler that lasted almost 4 years. (less hassle was worth paying for the Midas Muffler). I don't think you have much to worry about, but take it to a Volvo specialist cause they are tricky for people who don't work on them regularly.

the blue smoke can be remedied temporarily probably by going to halfords (other expensive accesory dealers are available) and buying a bottle of engine stop smoke, makes the oil a bit thicker so it doesnt get past the rings or run down the valve guides as much. as far as the abs light, its probably a sensor, or it could be a broken wire, you need someone with a multimeter. jack one wheel up at a time, take the plug off the sensor (you may need to chase the wire for some distance before finding said plug) and set your multimeter to ohms. spin the wheel. if the reading changes a lot then that sensor's ok. if it does nothing, the sensor's knackered. if it changes a little, it might just be a rusty exciter ring (the thing that looks like a gear on the back of the wheel) in which case it needs a good wire brushing and trying again. really is as simple as that. if you dont feel confident fitting a new sensor, go to a garage, its a 1 hour job maximum really, but a new sensor you're looking around £100-£150odd, plus vat.More Questions & Answers ...
