how long does it take to change a cylinder head gasket on a BMW 535i?
what you are describing does sound like a slipping clutch. If you bring the clutch right up, perhaps in 3rd or 4th gear, then rev the engine, if the engine note rises and the car does not speed up then you probably do have a slipping clutch. Can't advise on cost - sorryIt didn't damage your clutch as much as it did your transmission.

if it only happened once-the problem existed before the one time that she downshifted inappropriately. look in the phone book for a mechanic-this is Yahoo and not for soliciting a mechanic. If you're lucky the clutch is the only thing that got damaged.
Vehicle is technically totalled but I can still drive the car?
I'm surprised the transmission isn't scattered all over the inside of the car!
How do you get the gasoline smell out of clothing/car upholstery?
No really to the clutch, other than taking a lot of heat. BUT the gears in your transmission would be taking a beating but it sounds more like you need an adjustment. Your clutch could be not fully engaging. That or with driving like that, she may be in need of a new clutch and pressure plate. Has it been over 110,000 miles?cant help you oput much but its expensive job to replace the clutch, shiould cost as much for a skoda but when the clutch went in my rover 75 it cost me £750 to be done.
i have a carisma 1600 with a misfire under load any ideas the car is a 2000 reg?
maybe not so much the clutch, as the motor mounts.from gear 5 to gear 2 would make the engine twist to one side with great a violent shock. It may have torn out the engine mounts and caused the engine to move forward enough, to pill away from some thing. Why do my windshield wipers only work on high?
fifth into second!? your lucky not to have torn out the transaxle or cv shafts or blown the motor. probably did fry the clutch.some have adjustments on the rod you can turn.It might damage the clutch, but would definately have over revved the engine severely, Skodas are not Austins remember 60 in second at 8000 rpm was normal for 1275 metros, but not Skodas, they only rev to 5500, I am surprised it still runs after that treatment but you appear to have clutch slip problems so get a quote for a clutch from several different places.
If you want real fun get an old Triumph Acclaim Triomatic, they will go into reverse at 60 mph, but only once.
Sounds like a slipping clutch. If that's all it is your wife has been very lucky.
What causes rubber to be flexible?
Shouldnt really cause too much of a problem providing the clutch is quite healthy. Probably made the engine wind up a bit but should be ok. Get the clutch adjusted first before condemning itHow can i get my car's engine to turn over?
I have been a technician for 40 years now and 60 into 2nd is not a great idea but one mistake should be fine
pickup truck motor revs up when gas pedal is held in place?
Just keep a check on things for a few days and if you have any worries a local garage will probably roadtest it for you
I would say the same. Sounds like the clutch has lost it's grip. I don't know much about the Skoda, but I know their technology is old. So it might be possible to adjust the cluch manually and the problem should go away. Unless it's an hydraulic clutch. But it's definitly a slippy clutch. Look along the linkage, most likely at the end, where it goes in the clutch housing. Try adjusting it until it grabs well or find a friend who has some mecanical knowledge. Otherwise, any mechanic will tell you if the clutch is adjustable.
Had you damaged the gears, it would be a lot worst, like jumping out of gears or noise in the tranny or no more second gear! So it's most likely just the clutch and at worst, you'll need to replace it.
