Question:
I am thinking about buying a Ford Taurus S E '98.A mechanic told me that that certain year of car had alot of transmission problem. He could not remember which ones but told me to watch out.Does anyone know just which transmissions Ford had trouble with that year? How would a person go about finding out for sure if the transmission in this preticular car would be one of the ones that was bad? I was told to call a transmission repair shop, but I have the internet.Seems like there should be a site on here that would narrow down which transmissions were bad. Thanks for any info anyone can give me on this matter.

Where is the fuel filter in a 96 taurus?
Ford made a transmission called the AX4N. My '97 Taurus LX needed the tranny replacing at about 90,000 miles. All is well now, but I think 90K is a bit early for failure.Seems like some people have these trannies and they last forever, some last a few months... To find out which one it is, have a look at the transmission pan, it should be stamped right on it in big letters. Google that or google AX4N and see what you can muster.
Good luck!
To those familiar with window tint... please answer?
Well I haven't heard much about Ford's but I have a 98 Chevy vehicle and had to replace the transmission very early. I would suggest looking into a '99, one year newer should not have that much of an impact on the price and may save you the trouble of replacing a transmission soon. If not just take it to a mechanic before buyingHow do I remove blood from leather?
There are several different auto transmission type for that car,and they all sell very fast.Taurus and Sable have almost always been known to have weak transmissions.More Questions & Answers ...
