Any tricks to removing the nut on the cooling fan shaft where it connects to the water pump 02 ram 1500?

how do you keep the pulley from turning when trying to remove the nut. I know it is right hand thread. Does it require a special tool?

If you have a wrench that fits the nut (I use a 16" adjustable wrench) you should be able to get it off. Leave the belt on the engine and put the wrench on the nut. Using a big hammer, hit the end of the wrench (right to left). Two or three whacks always loosens them for me, and does no damage to the clutch nut, or fan hub.

As far as loosening the nut you have two options. The first is to rent a fan nut wrench set from autozone. If that does not work then you will have to do what I had to do, and that is use a air hammer and a chisel and try to turn the nut with that. As far as holding the pulley, either use a pipe wrench or use ( do not know the name) the tool that has a handle and a bike chain on the other end to hold the pulley, you will need two people. If the nut refuses to loosen the last resort will be to use a torch to heat the nut on the shaft, do not heat to red hot.
