Renault scenic dashboard flicks on and off?

Question:
My scenic dashboard flicks on and off!,as in switches off,the fuel needle drops,trip computer resets itself, etc Took it too garage they said it was battery failing (new One at £30), still flickering on and off!. Earth strap on gearbox needs tighened (still doing it) now needs new alternator!. Is this garage taking the pee or has anyone come across similar problem?

Sounds like you've bought my old Scenic
I had major probs with dashboad radio, indicators etc, spent £100's on batterys & re-wireing. BUT nothing seemed to put it right. I don't want to worry you BUT in the end It caught fire, while I had the 2 kids in the back!
Older Scenics ie R,S T reg are very well known for this problem.
