Question:
My first car, has 120,000 miles on it, needs new transmission, clutch, hatchback leak seal, and general mainteance to the tune of $2500. Wondering if I should go ahead and repair it, or is it time to shop for a new car?

you can blow a lot of money on all the necessary repairs to get it going in good condition. it may seem like a large blow in your wallet now, but it is all worth it in the long run.

the engines on these cars do last a long time. once you get all the major repairs out of the way, don't feel bad about spending a little here and there for daily maintenance (oil change, tune ups, tire maintenance, etc.) i drive an 87 4 cylinder toyota, and it has almost 400k miles on it. i bet if you really care about the car, it'll go up to 500k.

Maintainence Of a Fiat?

At 120K this car has not been maintained well for it to be in this condition. Unless the engine is still in top condition, I would be hesitant to put that kind of money in it. Honda's are fairly simple cars, but you still have brakes, axles, radiator, battery, water pump, etc that could fail driving the repair bill way up.

does anyone know how i can get a repair manual with parts break down (like a chiltons) for a 1965 ford pickup?

The engines will last over 400,000 miles if taken care of.

Changing wheels from 3 stud to 4 or 5 stud?

Well I don't think you can find a better car for $2500. If you spend a little more $4k-$6k you can get yourself a decent used car. If not Honda's have excellent engines so changing the clutch and trans should give you a least a couple more years.

I would stick with the Honda, they are great cars. I have a 1990 Honda Accord and it runs like a champ even with 206,000 miles on it! Just keep up on the maintenance and you will be fine!

where can i find mac tools in the uk?

my first suggestion, is have a local mechanic or your dad check out the car first before you go ahead with anything. Also the car only has 120,000 miles, has the oil and the maintaining of the car been up to date, this is key to helping the car run smoothly? It might be a minor problem that is easily fixed so instead of jumping the gun and spending all that money get more than one quote....
