When driving the other day my AC started making a tiny buzzing sound, but still worked.. It eventually started to get lounder and louder and now I just keep it off (although, it does still work).. The other day I checked it again and it made no noise and worked perfectly for about 2 hours, and then started making the noise again.. It almost sounds like a high pitched jet engine or something, but goes off as soon as turn off the AC, so it has to be that.. IDEAS?

It sounds like the compressor berrings are going. If it still works, it may be as simple as the belt, but from what you describe with it still working, the clutch may be going too..To knowda 1996 Ford F-150 excab 4x4 351 (5.8)ltr automatic with overdrive?

the ac clutch is probably bad as it has bearings in it, get it fixed before it locks up on you and burns the serpentine belt off too.More Questions & Answers ...
