Question:
When it does shift, it goes up thru the gears too fast. Does the shifting work with the vaccuum?
Answers:
my NO emmisions rose from 800 ppm to 1200 ppm after I installed a new EGR. Why?
This transmission does use vaccuum to shift. Your problem could be in a vaccuum line or the "shift modulator". This could also be because the filter aned fluid need changing. If this is the case, take it somewhere and have it flushed too.i own a repair shop, and ford hasn't used vacuum to shift there transmissions in a long time now,,this one is controlled by a cable and the valve body,,it probably just needs a good filter and fluid change done on it right now,,its not picking up the fluid fast enough to enter the transmission, and this is causing it to not shift right,,have it changed ,and have the bands adjusted while your at it,,and it will shift a lot better ,good luck hope this help,s.,,have a good x-mas.
dodge man has it right
one thing to keep in mind with that system is dont mat the throttle really quick in cold weather, this will cause the adjustment to jump again
Re my previous question please note info should read 1998 Rav 4 not 1988?
dodgeman is right and the guy below him is could be right too. I would like to add the the throttle valve cable could be broken or could be disconnected from the throttle because of a broken plastic clip that holds it to the throttle. I know the wording is a little off but I hope you can understand it.More Questions & Answers ...
